GEEK: MCA Zine Fair 2012

On Sunday the MCA held their annual zine fair as part of the Sydney Writers' Festival. It's always fun to go and see what my friends have been working on, and to check out what the other creative kids have on display.

This year was a bumper crop for me, as I picked up not one but two issues of Beef Knuckles, an awesome printed tea towel from the friendly guys at The Rizzeria, and the latest Tilted Page comic. There was some cute wrapping paper from the unstoppable Hello Sandwich, and equally cute water colour works from Dear Plastic for sale.

But for obvious reasons I was on the hunt for Lee Tran Lam's Japan Zine. I wonder how she finds the time to make such intricate handmade zines with all of her other creative exploits (and food reviews) - what an inspiration! The zine features an interview with my good friend Amy, who lived around the corner from me in Osaka. It made me very nostalgic for Japan - and I think I spotted a photo of our old Super Tamade supermarket in Osaka, or as we called it 'the brightest supermarket in the world'.

I was disappointed to miss out on buying a cute recipe zine called Scrumpmtch, by someone called Esther. I went to get some money out and when I got back it was all sold out! I asked the dude at the table, but she has no web site or blog. Oh well - maybe next year.
